The freelance writer is a man who is paid per piece or per word or perhaps.

"Why do you write?"
Writing is not only what I do—on a deeper level, it’s really what I am. Writing is not just how I make my living—it’s how I live my life.
My love affair with writing started in my childhood. Books carried me into worlds I never knew existed, and, once I learned how to write, my imagination kept me there. With paper and pen, I could bring people to life who never before existed. With 26 letters, I could create a universe of my own.
As an adult, writing is my way of making a connection with the rest of the world. Fiction, non-fiction, essays and books—they are all the tools with which I shape the land and make my home.
A professional writer and member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, I make my living writing magazine, web and corporate copy, fiction and essays as well as teaching writing workshops.
And, as America’s “Change Coach,” I encourage people to explore their abilities and focus on their goals through my books, “Rut-Busting”™ workshops and my Community of Change web site.
Writing Background
My articles appear in a wide range of print media and on informational websites, covering topics from “green living” and energy efficiency to home improvement and health and wellness. Through my company, Professional Writing Services, I handle corporate writing assignments, from white papers and marketing materials to internal publications and web copy.
My essays and fiction can be found on the pages of magazines as diverse as Full of Crow, Fiction365, Wanderings, The Chaffin Journal, Woman's Day, Stress-Free Living, Succeed, Experience Life, Tai Chi, Office Number One, Writer's Digest and Xtreme, exploring personal growth and relationship issues.
My book, The Gifts of Change, (Beyond Words Publishing) encourages readers to take a closer look at how they deal with the inevitability of change and ways in which they can use change to gain a new perspective, re-evaluate their goals and reconsider their options. I am currently working on several book projects: a novel, a short story collection and a second self-help book. For more details, click here.
Presentations
My writing workshops cover both the creative and business sides of writing and are presented at writing conferences and schools across the country.
My “Rut-Busting”™ workshops, available to businesses, organizations, educational facilities and retreat centers, help attendees explore options, identify goals and move forward on the path of change.
In addition to my weekly Internet radio show, “Take Charge of Your Life” on the VoiceAmerica network (currently on hiatus), I have been interviewed on shows such as “Over the Back Fence” (where I discussed writing and the writer’s life), Ruth Klein’s “Time Management Secrets,” “Professionals with Impact” and “A Woman’s Spirit.” I was also a regular guest on The Catholic Channel’s “As You Think” radio show and been interviewed by both magazines and newspapers on writing, self-employment and personal growth topics.
